Obituary of Carmen E. Corica
Carmen Edward Corica, age 69, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2023, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, at St. Vincent’s Medical Center. Carmen was born in Chandler, Arizona on August 2, 1953, at Williams Air Force Base to the late Joan D. and Agostino S. “Augie” Corica. He lived in Chicago near his mother’s family prior to moving to Bridgeport. Carmen graduated from St. Joseph High School and earned a BFA from the University of Bridgeport. He was an accomplished artist in many mediums, but was especially creative in producing beautiful pieces of pottery which he gifted to those he loved. Carmen also had a passion for music in which he was a bassist for the rock band Crosstown Traffic back in his high school days. Over the years he collected vintage basses and guitars of all kinds and shared his passion for music with his son.
Carmen has worked in many vocations throughout his life, but was most known for his positions as the Marketing Director at Greater Bridgeport Transit District and a Pari-mutuel Teller at Bridgeport Jai Alai. He was most proud of starting his own graphic arts company which he named Nemrac, which is Carmen spelled backwards.
Carmen loved his Harley Davidson, his 1977 Corvette, and the New York Yankees. He was a proud season ticket holder who was fortunate enough to attend several playoff games as well as 5 World Series. All game days ended at Dominick’s on Arthur Avenue where he knew everyone. He was also an avid gardener who was known for his “green” thumb. He founded Club Carm, which he dubbed “everything starts with Dawn”, and his chicken wings and the “Hot Ones Challenge” were legendary.
Carmen loved his family most of all, and was a devoted and loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife, Dawn Christina Palaia Corica and his son Carmine John Edward Corica. He was Bahama Papa to his honorary sons Steven D’Ascanio, Brian Reilly, and Connor Galvin. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
