Obituary of Lance R. Boros

Resident of Shelton Lance R. Boros, 53, of the Huntington section of Shelton, the beloved husband of Lisa Fern-Boros, who lived a life full of love and laughter that ended too soon, died Thursday, February 24, 2011. Lance was known for many passions, chief among them family, friends, travel, cooking and especially time spent with loved ones on the golf course. Born April 9, 1957, in Bridgeport, he was the son of the late Lance Boros Jr. and Madeline Soda Boros, and was raised in Stratford. He graduated from Bunnell High School in 1975, and went on to earn an associates degree in business at Housatonic Community College and a culinary arts degree at the Connecticut Culinary Institute. He was a configuration engineer, working more than 13 years at Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford. Prior to that he worked for Avco Lycoming in Stratford for 13 years and was briefly a chef at the 19th Hole restaurant in Bridgeport. Lances father, a Fairfield native, was an accomplished amateur golfer, and his uncles were the noted professional golfers, Ernest and Julius Boros, two-time winner of the United States Open. He began playing golf as a teenager shortly after his parents died, and discovered an affinity for the sport that eventually would take him to some of the greatest golf courses in the world, among them the Old Course at St. Andrews in Scotland. A special highlight was caddying for his cousin Julius and golf professional Guy Boros at the Greater Hartford Open -- and for his wife in local and USGA events. He was a member of the Highland Golf Club of Shelton, where he formerly served on the Board of Governors. Lance will be cherished by all who love him for his smile and laughter that would light up a room-- as they did many a fairway -- and for his kindness, generosity and eagerness to help others. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a sister, Phyllis A.S. Boros, and her husband, David W. Keyes of Bridgeport; aunts Rose Cella of Stratford, Irene Tuba of Fairfield, Elizabeth Hermann of Westminster, Calif., and Armen Boros of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; an uncle, Ernest Boros of Plantation, Fla.; his mother-in-law, Marguerite Fern, a sister-in-law, Cynthia Fern-King, and three nieces, Hilary and Ashley King, and Lisa M. Keyes, all of Massachusetts, as well as many cousins. Funeral Information Friends are invited to meet directly in St. Lawrence Church, 505 Shelton Ave., Shelton, on Monday, February 28, 2011, at 11:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Family and friends may call Sunday from 2-6 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. Donations Information In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lisa Fern-Boros through the funeral home for a memorial fund to be set up in Lances name at the Highland Golf Club.
