Obituary of Maria A. Rodrigues

Loving and Devoted Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother Maria Afonso Rodrigues, age 98, of Shelton beloved wife of the late Charles J. Rodrigues, died peacefully on Sunday June 10, 2012 at St. Vincents Medical Center with her family by her side. Born on January 30, 1914 in Montelegre, Portugal she was a daughter of the late Manuel Antonio Afonso and Benta Fernandes. Along with her family, Maria came to the United States in 1943 settling in Bridgeport and was retired employee of Avco Lycoming. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother who was dedicated to the care and love of her family. Survivors include her devoted son, Charles E. Rodrigues and his wife Noemia (Norm), her cherished granddaughter, Jennifer Pereira and her husband Jorge all of Shelton, two adoring great grandchildren, Mackenzi and Charles, a sister in law, Maria Afonso of Bridgeport; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers, Antonio, Joseph and Manuel Afonso and a sister Ristina Afonso. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to her sister-in-law Maria and niece Fernanda Afonso who took such great care of her, also to the staff of St. Josephs Adult Day Care and the staff of Sol Amor Hospice for their professionalism and dedication to the care of Maria. Funeral Information Funeral services will take place on Thursday, June 14, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Bridgeport for a Mass of Christian Burial. Entombment will follow in the Chapel Mausoleum of St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford. Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m.
