Obituary of Joseph Vitrella
Joseph Vitrella, age 78, of Bridgeprt, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday 11, 2004 at St. Vincent Medical Center. Born in Piana di Caiazzo, Province of Caserta , Italy, he was a son of the late Salvatore and Angelina Mona Vitrella, and was a Bridgeport resident over 65 years. He retired as a Patrolman for the Bridgeport Police Department after 28 years of service. A U.S. Army Air Force Veteran of World War II, he was a past member of the American Legion Post 11 and was a member of V.F.W. Post # 10273 of Stratford. He was also a member of the Patrolmans Association, Police Benevolent Association, Police Association of CT and Local 1159 Police Officers Union. Mr. Vitrella enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family, and will be sadly missed.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 57 years, Josephine Pirrello Vitrella of Bridgeport, two sons, Vincent Joseph Vitrella of Tamarack, Florida and Joseph A. Vitrella of Trumbull, two daughters, Bernadette Dioguardi and her husband Ralph of Trumbull and Lisa DAmore and her husband Alfred of Shelton, his devoted and caring brother, Guido Vitrella and his wife Ann of Shelton, a son in law, John Christensen Sr. of Atlanta, GA., 17 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews . He was predeceased by a daughter Angela Gloria Christensen.
Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, September 14, 2004 at 9 a.m. from the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10 a.m. in St. Margaret Shrine Chapel, Bridgeport for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with full military honors in St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call on Monday from 4-8 p.m.
