Obituary of George Gombos
Marble, Tile and Terrazzo Craftsman
George John Gombos, age 79, of Bridgeport, died on Monday, October 9, 2006 in St. Vincent Medical Center. Born in Fairfield on January 25, 1927, he was a son of the late John and Elizabeth Vince Gombos. Before his retirement, Mr. Gombos was a retired marble, tile and terrazzo worker for over 56 years and a member of the Bricklayers Union, Local #2. He enjoyed and was active in stock car racing. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Maryanne Fraboni Gombos, a daughter, Carol Mielniczek and her husband, Ziggy of Derby, three sons, George E. Gombos and his wife, Chriss of Bridgeport, Alan J. Gombos and his wife, Linda of Monroe and Richard C. Gombos and his wife, Dawn of Naugatuck, two brothers, William Gombos of Massachusetts and Daniel Gombos of Woodbury, two sisters, Elizabeth Turrell of Fairfield and Lillian Demeter of Bradenton, Florida, eleven grandchildren, three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place on Friday, October 13, 2006 at 9:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10:00 a.m. in St. Margarets Shrine, Bridgeport for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 8 pm.
