Obituary of Alexander Convertito

Resident of Trumbull Alexander Convertito, age 91, of Trumbull, beloved husband of Almarie Dalvano Convertito, died on Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at his residence. Born in Bridgeport on January 16, 1918, he was a son of the late Anthony and Emmanuela Totta Convertito. Alexander served in the Connecticut National Guard, Battery A first Battalion, 242nd Coastal Artillery, Bridgeport, CT, before being called into active service in the years prior to Pearl Harbor. He served honorably in World War II in the European Theater of War and achieved the rank of Army Staff Sergeant. He was a proud member of Battery C, 492nd Armored Field Artillery Battalion of the 11th Armored Division. As part of General George S. Pattons third army, his division was engaged in major military campaigns including those in Central Europe, the Rhineland and Ardennes-Alsace. His division helped liberate towns and cities throughout France, Belgium and Austria including the Mauthausen concentration camp in Austria. He was honorably discharged from service in December 1945 following the end of hostilities in Europe. He served as Secretary of the VFW Post #10059 and was a member of Knights of Columbus in Bridgeport. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Almarie Ianuly and her husband Paul of MD, Kenneth Convertito and his wife Debra, David Convertito and his wife Roberta, all of Monroe and Mark Convertito of Stratford, 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, a sister, Grace Blackwell of Florida, and many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by brothers, Paul, Pete, Jimmy, Ralph and Natale Convertito and a sister Susan Juliano. The family would like to thank all the caregivers of hospice, especially Rosella Grossett for all of her care and service during their time of need. Funeral Information Friends are invited to meet directly in Christ the King Church, 4700 Madison Ave., Trumbull on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with military honors will follow in Gate of Heaven, Trumbull. Family and friends may call on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at The Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. Donations Information In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions through the funeral home be made to his grandson Alex J. Convertito for medical expenses incurred from injuries suffered in a recent automobile accident.
