Obituary of Ernest F. D'Elia

U.S. Veteran Ernest F. DElia, age 92, of Shelton, beloved husband of Gertrude Santillo DElia for 57 years, passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Cambridge Manor in Fairfield. Born in Bridgeport on May 4, 1921, he was the son of the late Ernesto and Celeste Manieri DElia. He was a graduate of Harding High School in Bridgeport and completed a course in Drafting at Bullard Haven in 1956. Ernest was also a graduate of the Radio Control Towers School of the U.S. Air Force. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force and operator of the control tower on Biak Island of the Pacific Solomon Islands during World War II. Mr. DElia was a retiree of Avco Lycoming, where he worked for 31 years as an expeditor; he was a member of the Avco retirees, Union Local 110, and an active member of the Shelton Senior Center. He was pre-deceased by a son, David DElia, his wife Gertrude, sisters, Esther, Lena, and Dorothy and brother, Albert and their spouses. He is survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Funeral Information Funeral services will take place on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 8:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 9:00 a.m. in St. Margaret Mary Church, Shelton for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Michaels Cemetery, Stratford. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Friday from 3-7 p.m.
