Obituary of Joseph Antunes

Loving and Dedicated Husband, Father and Grandfather Joseph Antunes, age 65, of Shelton and formerly of Bridgeport, beloved husband of Maria Teresa Barroso Domingos Antunes, died peacefully on Friday December 24, 2010 at St. Vincents Medical Center with his loving family by his side. Born in Penalonga, Portugal on June 1, 1945 he was a son of Alzira Andre Antunes of Bridgeport and the late Domingos Antunes. He came to the United States in 1960 and settled in Bridgeport. Joe was a retired supervisor for the City of Bridgeport Public Works Department with 20 years of dedicated service. Joe was one of the original founding members of the Portuguese Vasco da Gama Club in Bridgeport and was proud to have been a part of its growth throughout the years. He served as a past treasurer and volunteered his time endlessly to help the club in any capacity necessary. Joe was a loyal fan of the Benfica Soccer Team and proudly passed on his passion of soccer to his grandson. Joe will always be remembered as a dedicated friend who would always lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He was a loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather who will be deeply missed. In addition to his devoted wife of 48 years, Maria Teresa and mother Alzira, survivors include two loving children, Lucy Antunes of Shelton and Joseph Antunes Jr., and his wife Maria Fatima of Monroe, two cherished grandchildren, Hailey Lauren and Lucas Joseph, two brothers, Mario Antunes and his wife Lala of Arkansas and Anibal Andre Antunes and his wife Julie of Arizona, two sisters, Maria Gargoni of Bridgeport and Teresa Noel and her husband George of Stratford. He also leaves to cherish his memory his godmother, Louisa Cacote as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral Information Funeral services will take place on Wednesday December 29, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10:00 a.m. in St. Augustine Cathedral, Bridgeport for a Mass of Christian Burial. Entombment will follow in the St. Monica Mausoleum in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m
