Obituary of Amedeo Lawrence DelVecchio

U. S. Army Veteran of World War II Amedeo Lawrence DelVecchio age 88, of Bridgeport, beloved husband of Leona (Lee) Morris DelVecchio, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, November 13, 2011 in Connecticut Health Care of Southport surrounded by his loving family. Born in New Brunswick, NJ on April 17, 1923, he was a son of the late Gioacchino and Marie Sciarrillo DelVecchio. He is survived by his loving wife Lee, of 47 years, his beloved daughters, Gail Calandro and her husband Pete and Diane Beardsworth and her husband Tom, all of Naugatuck. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Kelly Calandro Kane and her husband Jay, Kim Calandro Gallo and her husband Adam, all of Prospect, Bryan Beardsworth and his wife Jacyln, Allison and Kyle Beardsworth, all of Naugatuck, five great grandchildren, Paige Beardsworth and Riley, Payton, and Aidan Kane and Abigail Gallo, one sister, Phyllis Ruta of Shelton as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Philomena DelVecchio and three brothers, Mario, Angelo and Joseph DelVecchio. He attended Warren Harding High School, worked at Remington Arms as well as construction and masonry work. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he served in the Army 6TH Division, serving in the European Theater Operation. Also he was in Bastogne Belgium, Northern France, Rhineland Ardennes and central Europe. Returning from the war he worked in construction and then went on to Sikorsky Aircraft where he worked as a security guard until his retirement in 1985. He enjoyed his retirement, his yearly trips to Florida and his many friends from Canada he acquired. Larry enjoyed his family and all of the get togethers especially Christmas. He was a great carpenter and could make or build anything. His Mr. Fix It talents are too many to list. He loved comedy, cartoons, music, Italian Opera, and the fortys and fiftys music. His smile and laughter would light up the room. He attended Fairfield Grace United Methodist Church faithfully and was an usher until recently. He had a great faith in God and believed his conscience was his Holy Spirit and this is how he lived. Larry was a loving and caring man, who was always willing to lend a helping hand no matter what the project. He will be deeply missed. Funeral Information A Memorial Service celebrating his life will take place on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in Fairfield Grace United Methodist Church, 1089 Fairfield Woods Rd., Fairfield. Military honors will follow the service at the church. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
