Obituary of William Finch
William "Bill" Finch, age 89, passed away on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 with his family by his side. Born on July 19, 1925, he was one of six children born to Lester and Albertina (Meyers) Finch. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years Margaret Cole Finch, one sister Muriel Falanga and one brother Donald (Paula). He also leaves to cherish his memory, four children, Bill Finch (Sonya), Elizabeth Berry (Eddie), Edward Finch (Jenniegrace) and Rosemary Yost (John); nine grandchildren, Peter, Christopher, Billy, Andrea, Tommy, Atticus, Mark, Aiden and Paul. He was predeceased by brothers Robert, Raymond and Jack.
He was part of the "Greatest Generation" who served in the military bravely and loved his country deeply. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard two destroyers sited for distinguished service. He served aboard the USS Corry during the invasion of Normandy, Utah Beach where the ship was sunk and aboard the USS Shea during the battle of Okinawa which took a direct hit from suicide "baka bomber." He worked for 37 years as a machinist at the Bullard Company. Bill was exceedingly proud of his family, his community and his country. He was a humble and honest man of deep faith who was liked by those who knew him and always had good things to say about others...especially if they rooted for the Green Bay Packers.
