Obituary of Angelo A. Guzzi
Angelo A. Guzzi, age 93, of Bridgeport, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, died on Thursday, July 28, 2005. He was one of 17 children, born in Bridgeport to Maria and Carmine Guzzi. Many in Bridgeport knew Angelo for the service station he owned and operated for over 50 years. As the former President of both the Bridgeport Gasoline Dealers and the Connecticut Gasoline Dealers Association, he took pride in the role he played during the gasoline shortage of 1973. Taking many trips to the State Capitol in Hartford and Washington, D.C., he lobbied for better conditions for the members of the Association. He served on the U.S.S. Phoenix in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He was also a Corporal in the Connecticut State Guard. Back at home, he was a proud member of the Monsignor James F. Murphy Council 4716 of the Knights of Columbus. He also served on Bridgeports Energy Commission and was a member of the Chamber of Commerces Beautify Bridgeport Council for five years. Instilling a love of the arts in his children, he also had done stage management for various theater groups, including the Hallen School Fathers Club Variety Shows, and the Off Broadway Talent Workshop of Bridgeport. Someone who looked out for others, Angelo worked to raise hundreds of pints of blood for the Red Cross. He also organized a campaign to collect clothing and money that benefited the needy in Italy.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Adeline Lombardo Guzzi, his four cherished children, Anthony Guzzi and his wife Ginnie of Trumbull, Elizabeth Frillici and her husband, Donald of Trumbull, Carolyn Tiernan and her husband Terrence of Milford, Robert Guzzi and his partner Gloria Gosse of Park Ridge, New Jersey, his nine loving grandchildren Anthony Guzzi and his wife Laura, John Guzzi, Chris Guzzi, Michael Guzzi and his wife Pasqua, Leigh and Donald Frillici, Kelly and Kevin Tiernan, and James Guzzi, along with his two great grandchildren Amanda and Sara Guzzi.
