Obituary of Andrew D. Davey

Andrew D. Davey, age 87, husband of Adelaide Schmitt Davey of Stratford, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2015. Born in Brooklyn, NY on April 18, 1927, he was the son of the late Andrew Dennis and Elsie Mann Davey and a longtime resident of Stratford. Mr. Davey was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II and a graduate of Sienna College. Before his retirement he was vice president of sales at Fritzsche, Dodge & Olcott. Noted by many for his kindness and sense of humor, Mr. Davey (Andy) often impressed with his ability to put others at ease with compliments and a seemingly endless round of jokes. Relative strangers would comment on his gentle and entertaining nature. He was easily moved by music, as well as by stories concerning children and animals. He loved watching a variety of sports, and took particular pleasure in attending the athletic events of several of his grandchildren. He always hoped to visit Barbados, and extended the invitation to any and all. In addition to Adelaide, his wife of 62 years, survivors include his children—James Davey of Trieste, Italy, Thomas Davey of Boston, MA, Robert Davey and his wife Susan of Avon, CT, John Davey and his wife Joanne of Redding, CT, Kathleen Downey of Stamford, CT, and Patricia Buckley of Monroe, CT, along with 15 grandchildren and one great granddaughter. Additionally, he leaves a brother, Kenneth Davey and his wife Gail of FL. He was predeceased by his sister, Kathleen Riley. A memorial mass will be held at a later date.
