Obituary of Gustave V. Hanson

Gustave V. Hanson age 87, of Shelton a retired employee of Avco Lycoming, died on Saturday February 21, 2009 in Bridgeport Hospital. Born in Bridgeport on September 18, 1921, he was the son of late Gustav and Astrid Peterson Hanson.

A decorated World War II veteran, Gustave served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was awarded the Silver Star on November 20, 1943 from Admiral C. W. Nimitz, commander in chief of the U.S. Pacific Fleet, for his gallantry and intrepidity while serving with the Second Marine Division. His bravery enabled a safe route for tanks to travel after all markers were swept away. A graduate of the Warren Harding High School Class of 1942, he was also a member of the 2nd Marine Division Association, Shelton Seniors, Hiram Lodge # 12 of Shelton, the Avco Lycoming retirees and the Nichols United Methodist Church.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 58 years Millicent Hiertz Hanson and two brothers, Carl Robert and Leonard Alden Hanson.

Survivors include two devoted daughters, Rene L. Hanson, Deidre H. Burke and her husband Anthony all of Huntington, two loving grandsons, Anthony Joseph Burke and his wife Shellie of Southington and Brad Vernon Burke and his wife Eileen of Terryville, three cherished great grandchildren, Aidan Hunter, Addison Mae and Gabriel Stuart and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of Bridgeport Hospital for their outstanding care in their time of need and also the staff of Hewitt Memorial for their care in his short time there. 

Prayer Services will take place on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Bridgeport. Friends may call on Tuesday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
