Maureen and Dick were dear friends for almost all of my adult life. We always enjoyed dinners with them, the lively conversation and Maureen's wonderful warmth and quick humor filled the evenings. Their love showed itself in so many ways. Maureen's easy acceptance of Dick's US Marine outlook and Dick's ability to embrace and encourage Maureen's strong Irish will and spirit were a joy to watch, like a good reality show decades before their invention! Maureen's wonderful beauty, strength and integrity were a model for us, she was a gentle feminist before the term was known, yet also a dutiful wife and protective mother who ran a bustling house while working full time. I will miss Maureen, just as I miss Dick, but I bet they are together again, and that is so comforting.
