I have very fond memories of sister Sheila at St Josephs parish.
I remember one Saturday after mass bringing her to Teletrack to place a bet on the Kentucky Derby. She was so excited that day. She told me all about her childhood growing up on the estate with horses. She loved listening to my stories about teaching and i was fascinated by her life and experience. She looked forward to our visits to Wilton when we brought her to lunch. She always had a sparkle in her eye.
I saw her last on July 4th weekend. She was watching her beloved Yankees when I walked into the room. She would always chuckle when I called the rectory to ask if the coast was clear meaning Father had left the building. Barbara always had her favorite chocolate doughnuts and we would read her face book page to her where she received updates from her many students in Puerto Rico.. Heaven has certainly gained an angel Sister Sheila was loved by all who were blessed to know her. She touched so many lives and will be missed by so many.

My condolences to Sister Sheila's family. I was a member of Colegio La Piedad's Class of 1976, which was the first graduating class. She was such a key person in my formation and that of so many of us. She created in our school a loving and caring culture. She was patient and kind, while being firm, and expecting the best from her students. She loved all sports but most of all baseball. We moved from NY to PR when I was in 7th grade and like her were Yankee fans. After our class reunion in 2006, we communicated regularly by email until she lost her vision. The last time I saw her was in New Haven in 2013 when I was on the way to Boston to see my daughter. She was concerned that my daughter had turned to the darkside by becoming a Red Sox fan. We had a wonderful visit reminiscing. Thank you Sister Sheila for all that you did for me and all of us. You touched so many, made a difference in so many lives and made the world a better place. You always live in our hearts. Rest in Peace.

I was the pastor of St. Joe's Parish in New Haven when Sister Shelia was living there. We had many prayerful discussions over the Yankees and the Red Sox. Now that Shelia is with the Lord I will be worrying about my Red Sox. Shelia no fair talking to Him about the troubles of the Yankees. My love and prayers to all.

Our deepest condolences to the O'brien family on the passing of our dear Sister Sheila. I was part of the first graduating class of '76 and will never forget her unconditional love and dedication to the school and her students. We lived the most unforgettable years with her! When my sister and I first enrolled, our English was very weak and Sister Sheila took a group of us under her wing and provided free tutoring on Saturdays until we caught up, such a selfless gesture!
May she rest in peace - heaven has a new Angel!
Always in our hearts,
Maria del Carmen and Ana Margarita
