Obituary of Richard J. Mitchell
Richard J. Mitchell, age 73, beloved husband of Kathleen Duffey of Monroe, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2019 at St. Vincent's Medical Center surrounded by his loving family and friends. Born in Stamford on January 29, 1946, he was a son of the late Samuel Mitchell and Louise McPeake- Mitchell and was a longtime resident of Monroe. Before his retirement, Richard was a maintenance manager at C.R. Gibson of Norwalk for many years. A proud member of the Army National Guard, Dick was a lifetime member of the Norwalk Boat Club. He was a grateful member and friend of Bill W., where he touched many lives and built lasting friendships. He spent a lot of time going on long drives in his cherished 69' red convertible Corvette, and went on many memorable vacations, especially to Curacao with the light of his life, wife Kathy, every year on their wedding anniversary. He enjoyed flying RC planes and going to Doo Wop concerts. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed taking his family and dogs out on his boat. He bonded with his grandchildren over their many video game races in Mario Kart. You could often find Dick playing with his Grandkids, who he would do anything for, including dressing up as Elmo for their birthdays. A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend, he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his beloved wife and best friend Kathy of 26 years, other survivors include his loving son, Joe Mitchell, his daughter-in-law, Carol, of Norwalk and two cherished grandchildren, Richard and Erin, as well as many nieces and nephews and his canine companions, One Eyed Jack and Cara. He was predeceased by a brother, Donald Mitchell, a sister, Mary Louise Cameron and his special pups, Abby and Dylan.
Friends can greet the family on Monday, July 8, 2019 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. A prayer service will take place on Monday night at 6:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
