Obituary of Edith C. Roviello
Edith M. (Christino) Roviello, 95 of Stratford, CT passed away peacefully on Friday, April 23, 2021 in Milford Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Lucia (Ferrara) and Alfredo Cristino.
Edye attended Warren Harding High School in the forties, but when war broke out, she put her education on hold and decided to enter the workforce to contribute to the war effort. She knew the value of an education and was adamant about returning to school. Always one to accomplish what she set out to do, she pursued and received her G.E.D. Edye also attended Miss Betty's Hairdressing School in Stratford, CT and worked in a salon. In future years, she decided to pursue clerical studies at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT.
As a teen, she worked at Pelligrino's doing inventory and stocking shelves. She was employed by the General Electric Company for 41 years working in the Manufacturing, Sales and Accounting Departments. She also worked for the Black & Decker Corporation. For a short period of time, she was a hostess at the Costa Azzura Restaurant in Milford, CT. Never one to be idle, she combined her love of fashion and cosmetics with her interpersonal skills and sales abilities, excelling at her part-time position at the Perfume Department of Read's Department Store in Trumbull, CT where she worked until she was 80 years old.
Edye possessed many talents and her ability to knit, crochet, needlepoint and sew was exemplary. She was an avid Yankee fan and watched the games faithfully. Edye loved to dance and spent weekends at various social gatherings. When she wasn't dancing, she could be found playing the piano.
Exploring her Italian heritage was paramount, as she traveled to Europe many times visiting her favorite country, Italy. She also enjoyed casino trips with her friends.
Edye was always well-dressed, in vogue, well-traveled, and active well into her 90's. Bowling was a favorite pastime that she spent with her cherished friends. She was disappointed when the pandemic stifled her weekly bowling outings. She was a skilled cook, her stuffed hot peppers on holidays were a family favorite. She attributed her long life to escarole and beans which was one of her favorite dishes.
Edye was the embodiment of determination, style, and perseverance. Her feisty nature and sharp wit will be truly missed. Anyone who spoke with her enjoyed her intriguing conversations.
Edye was pre-deceased by her brothers, Anthony Christino, and Joseph Cristino, her sisters, Rose Sportini, Elizabeth Ducey, Marie Kilgore, Jennie Cristino, Lillian Carrara, Rita Cristino and her dedicated nephew Anthony Timpanelli.
She is survived by her devoted niece, Lucinda Timpanelli, a sister Antoinette Cristino, many treasured friends, and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dorcia Thompson for her care, companionship and support. Sincere gratitude to the M3 West doctors, nurses, and staff of Milford Hospital for their genuine caring and attentiveness.
