Obituary of Antonio Da Cruz

Antonio (Tonaco) Da Cruz, age 93, of Ansonia, beloved husband of the late Olinda Morais Da Cruz, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 6, 2022 with his loving family by his side. Born in Soutelo, Chaves, Portugal on August 4, 1928, he was a son of the late Arcino Da Cruz and Maria Rodrigues Sampaio.

Tonaco came to the U. S. in 1969, settling in Bridgeport before moving to Ansonia. He began his working career at Sikorsky Aircraft and upon leaving, he would work for A & A Brother's Construction for more than 35 years and loved tending to his garden.

Antonio was a hardworking, strong, caring man who was dedicated to providing for his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed when his family was together, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His smile would light up a room when the kids were with him. The unconditional love he gave, and the memories they created will forever live in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Tonaco will be deeply missed by all.

Survivors include his loving children, Jose Alberto Da Cruz and his wife Elaine, Arcilio Da Cruz and his wife Ceu, Clara Goncalves and her husband Jose, Manuel Da Cruz, Antonio Da Cruz, Joaquim Da Cruz and his wife Kelly, Carlos Da Cruz and his wife Paula, Fernanda Teixeira, and Cidalia Da Cruz, 25 cherished grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren; a brother, Jose Da Cruz, sisters, Zelinda Gomes, Gloria Morais, and Odette Pires, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandson David Da Cruz and son-in-law, Jacinto Teixeira and two sisters Teresa Teixeira and Senhorinha Alves.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at 12:30 p.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 429 Huntington Rd., Bridgeport. Interment will follow in Lawncroft Cemetery, Fairfield. Relatives and friends can greet the family on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull.
