Obituary of Alvey J. Moore

Alvey J. Moore passed away peacefully at St. Mary's Hospital, Waterbury, on June 25, 2022. He was born in Monkstown, Texas on October 21, 1927 to James and Callie Moore. His family moved to Oklahoma shortly thereafter where Alvey was raised and later graduated from Grant High School in 1945. Alvey joined the U.S. Air Force after high school and it was there that he met his beloved Dorothy (Dottie) Cervi who he married in 1954. Alvey and Dorothy settled in Monroe, CT and after raising their two boys, they remained at their Monroe home until Dorothy's passing in 2018.

Alvey was an Oklahoman and would often softly say that although he lived the majority of his life in Connecticut, his heart remained in Oklahoma. Even as age deprived him of his thoughts, he would confusedly say that he wanted to get in the car and drive back home, to Oklahoma. He would always wax proudly of the storied accomplishments of fellow Oklahoman, Mickey Mantle, and enjoyed the many glory years of Oklahoma Football going all the way back to program's 47 game winning streak in the 1950s. He never forgave Notre Dame for ending that streak.

Alvey was a devoted family man and made it his business to attend any and all events he could involving his children and grandchildren. Few ballgames of any type were ever missed. He was always a quiet and dignified spectator, grounded in the face of disappointment, humble and gracious with success. Alvey's neighbors will always remember his inexhaustible care of his yard and property while one of his great passions, the birds, will miss the many years of food and shelter Alvey caringly gave to them.

Alvey retired from the New York Air National Guard, Stewart Air Force Base, in 1987 after proudly committing nearly 37 years to military service. Alvey and Dorothy happily lived out their retirement years together in Monroe until Dorothy's passing in 2018.

Alvey is survived by his sons, Tim Moore, Austin, TX and David Moore (Patricia), Shelton, CT. He will be greatly missed by his four cherished grandchildren, Christopher, Zachary, Emily, Mackenzie and great grandchild, Anthony Moore. He is pre-deceased by his beloved wife Dorothy of 64 years, his mother and father James and Callie (Whisenant) Moore, siblings Floyd and Clydene Moore, Helen and Richard Hill, James Carl and Erma Dell Moore, Otis and Tommy Lou Moore and Roy and Edith Moore.

Friends are invited to greet the family on Saturday, July 2, 2022, from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Jude's Catholic Church, Monroe at 11:00 AM and internment will immediately follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 1056 Daniels Farm Road, Trumbull, CT.
