Obituary of Frutuoso (Fred) Rua Pires

Frutuoso (Fred) Rua Pires, age 81, of Bridgeport, beloved husband of Ann Ardito Pires, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 28, 2022 with his loving family by his side. Born on April 11, 1941 in Cervos, Montalegre, Portugal he was a son of the late Antonio Pires and Joaquina Rua. 

Fred immigrated to the United States in 1950 and settled in Bridgeport. A construction laborer, he worked for many local construction companies and was a member of the Laborers Unions in Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Jersey.  A hard-working man, Fred always provided the best for his family. He loved working in his yard, helping neighbors and could be found tinkering on cars. But above everything he was a loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He treasured time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. The unconditional love he gave and the values he taught will forever live in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Fred will be deeply missed. 

In addition to his beloved wife of 60 years, Ann, survivors include his two loving children, Roseann Rodrigues of Shelton and Fred Pires and his wife Jolanda of Ansonia, two cherished grandchildren, Melissa Rodrigues and David Rodrigues, three brothers, Anthony Pires, Albino Pires and his wife Diane and Fernando Pires, a sister, Maria Reis, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son-in-law, Ferdy Rodrigues, brother-in-law, Fernando Reis and sister-in-law, Claudette Pires. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at 9:45 a.m. directly on St. Lawrence Church, 505 Shelton Ave., Shelton. Interment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Monroe. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Wednesday from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
