Obituary of Mary C. Spak

Dr. Mary (Szpak) Spak, 84, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2023 in Bridgeport, CT. She was born in Krakow, Poland on October 9, 1938. Mary attended Jagiellonian University where she met and married Thaddeus Spak. She graduated with a medical degree and began her training in radiology. In 1968 Mary and Ted, along with their young son James, Mary's mother Irene and brother Mark escaped Poland and fled to the United States. They settled in Huntington, NY where they raised James and their son Charles. While raising her children and settling into a new country Mary completed her American residency in radiology. She worked at Huntington Medical Group for most of her career and practiced well into her 70's.

Mary was a devoted mother and grandmother and nothing gave her more joy than seeing her children and grandchildren and hearing about their exploits. Many meals were shared in her dining room where she made sure everyone was well fed including secretly the family dogs under the table. She was a great lover of nature and especially enjoyed her trips to the mountains of Switzerland and the family's cottage in Montauk, NY. She could often be found swimming in the sound and the ocean, no matter what the temperature. She moved with Ted to Connecticut in 2022 to be closer to her family.

Mary was predeceased by her parents and brother, her son Charlie, and her husband Ted. She is survived by her son Jim Spak, his wife Caroline, her granddaughters Emily Spak and Amanda Spak and her niece Renya Spak
