Obituary of Mark A. Spray
Mark Alan Spray, age 46, was born in Bridgeport, CT on May 7, 1977. Mark was the son of Richard and Roberta (Turlis) Spray of Bridgeport and the beloved husband of Danielle (Keagle) Spray of Shelton, CT. Mark passed away peacefully on Friday, November 3, 2023 at Yale New Haven Hospital, surrounded by his loving family and very close friends.
In addition to his beloved wife Danielle of 11 years, he leaves four cherished children, Matthew (12), Zachary (10), Gabriella (8) and Isabella (5) and two loving sisters, Michelle Royer of Torrington, CT (husband Erick) and Julie Spray of Niskayuna, NY, as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Mark attended grammar school at Holy Family (Fairfield) and Notre Dame Catholic High School (Fairfield). After graduating from Notre Dame, Mark enlisted in the Army in the 82nd Airborne Division as a Paratrooper. After the Army Mark went on to take college courses in engineering and work in construction and later found his career job working for Claris Construction for 17 years where Mark was a project manager.
Mark met and fell in love with Danielle, his beautiful wife of 11 years and they created 4 amazing children together. Mark was a huge NY Giants and NY Yankees fan. Mark was always seen at his boys’ baseball and football games, cheering them on and even coaching. Mark also took his daughters to horse-back riding and dance class. He was so proud of all of his children and their accomplishments.
Mark was first diagnosed in January of 2021 with Stage 4 Non-Hodkins Lymphoma. He fought this aggressive cancer head on, he never complained and never gave up even with many failed harsh treatments. In March of 2022 Mark’s wife found a clinical trial in Maryland. After 6 treatments there, Mark was then in remission for 6 months. It wasn’t until June of 2023 Mark found out that his cancer was back. This did not stop Mark from fighting cancer again, and this time getting a stem cell transplant in July with stem cells from his sister Julie. Unfortunately, the cancer progressed faster than medicine, doctors and stem cells could keep up with. Even being as sick as he was, Mark was always with his wife and kids. He never missed games, and even if he couldn’t be there to see it, he listened and watched from his phone or had someone record it. A true family man and friend who will be missed immensely by all that knew him and loved him.
Friends may greet the family members at a memorial gathering that will take place on Friday, November 10, 2023 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. with the presentation of Military Honors at 6:30 at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
ln lieu of flowers, the family is requesting contributions in Mark’s memory to be sent to Danielle Spray and their four children to help cover accumulated medical expenses and alleviate the financial stress on the family.
