Joanne,
We met in High School and remained close friends for 41 years. You were a bright light in a sometimes dark world. The kindest most generous person one will ever meet. I will miss our phone calls, texts, dinners, coffee runs. The many gifts you would leave in my mailbox. You leave me with so many great memories that I will cherish forever. There is no doubt right now, that you are doing what you love and planning Heaven’s next big social event.
Rest in peace my friend. Love you.

Jo,
It has been just over 2 weeks and I still cannot believe you are no longer a phone call, a text, a car ride or face-time session away...
I was planning to call you to firm up a day and time to visit when I was visiting in CT for the holidays, especially because we had missed going on our planned trip to Essex in October. In some strange (but beautiful way) I can understand your silence regarding your diagnosis because you had always said that if you were to ever get seriously ill and had limited time on Earth, you would not want to tell anyone. Your reason was so true to your nature. You said you wanted to be remembered for how you've LIVED. You absolutely will be, my cherished friend.
Thank you for the love, the laughs, the sage wisdom and all the countless reasons you blessed my life.
From remembering you as the little dark-haired cutie with cat glasses who wound up on my bus when you were in first grade at Most Precious Blood School to navigating our crazy teens and twenties, to being my beautiful bridesmaid, to your visit with me in Colorado to our get-togethers whenever possible in Trumbull, Mystic and Federal Hill.
Rest in all the sweetness you knew and gave to all, my fellow Moonchild and lover of the sea.
I love you,
R

Rita & Lucia,
My heart goes out to you both. Joanne certainly was one of a kind! This is still so hard to believe, but I find comfort in knowing she's reunited with your mom, whom she referred to as her best friend, and has missed dearly since her passing in 2017. Here's a picture of the two of them, that Cyd took, from our wedding almost 25 yesrs ago. Sending love and strength to you and may Joanne Rest in Peace.

To the family, and friends of Joanna who have shared their condolences and memories,
This quote is for you, Thank you.
No love, no friendship can cross the path of our destiny
without leaving some mark on it forever.
by Francois Muriac
Joanna did indeed leave her mark in the world she left. The only comfort as a sister I feel is that her spirit joins the spirits of her beloved parents, brother Dan, sisters Sue and Cyd.

I can’t wrap my head around the fact that you are gone. We’ve been friends since middle school. We’ve shared so much together, secrets, laughs, tears, memories I will cherish forever. We laughed about all the times we went to the lake to scheme up a plan when your mom would leave the house we’d rally up all of Trumbul High and St. Joes and have a party. Mama Leone would come home to find all these kids all over the house and property. I can see her face now, “Joanna, what you doing?” To your answer, “mom. We just invited some people over.” You both made the same sad faces but the love you shared was absolutely beautiful. You came to see my mom over 5 months ago before she passed giving her flowers to put in front of her blessed Mary. You were always so kind, sweet and loving. Always putting others before yourself. You died 5 months to the day my mom passed. I wish I was there for you. I wish you called so I could be there as you were for me. I can still hear your voice and what it’s saying to me. So I will cherish our memories, our time spent as best friends, your unselfishness and love for life, and beauty of giving. I love you my forever friend. I hope you are at peace with your family And in Gods loving arms.

She Is Gone
You can shed tears that she is gone
Or you can smile because she has lived
You can close your eyes and pray that she will come back
Or you can open your eyes and see all that she has left
Your heart can be empty because you can’t see her
Or you can be full of the love that you shared
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday
You can remember her and only that she is gone
Or you can cherish her memory and let it live on
You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back
Or you can do what she would want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

I struggle to find the words to express my sadness about Joanna's passing. It's physically painful to think about it and impossible to comprehend. She was one of my closest friends for 30 years. She was loving, caring, smart, sarcastically funny and pretty feisty at times. I never imagined her not being in my life. She was so loved and will be missed by many people. The world is a bit dimmer without her in it. Rest in peace my friend…

I thought of you today,
But that is nothing new.
I thought of you yesterday,
And will tomorrow too.
I think of you in silence,
And make no outward show.
For what it meant to lose you,
Only those who love you know.
Remembering you is easy,
I do it every day.
It's the heartache of losing you,
That will never go away.

I was heartbroken to hear about the passing of Joanna. I am still in a state of shock. Not only has she been my colleague for the last year, but I am fortunate enough to have had her as a friend. When I first began working at Frenchtown, Joanna was always there to offer her advice and lend an ear. Her presence at work has been greatly missed and it will continue to feel different without seeing her smile and welcoming heart walking through the hallway.
Rest Easy, my friend ❤️
