Obituary of Peter J. Turechek
Peter J. Turechek, age 97, of Bridgeport, beloved husband of the late Frances Ann Wondell Turechek, passed away on Friday, January 19, 2024, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Bridgeport on November 12, 1926, he was a son of the late John and Antoinette (Speta) Turechek.
After graduating high school Peter joined the United States Navy and proudly served his country during World War II. Following the war, he became a firefighter with the City of Bridgeport Fire Department with many years of dedicated service until his retirement as Lieutenant. He was also a member of the Bridgeport Area Retired Firefighters (B.A.R.F.)
Peter enjoyed woodworking and was a "jack of all trades", a skill he passed on to his children. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He loved traveling the country with his wife Fran and spending time with his family. The values he taught and unconditional love he gave will forever live in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include two loving sons, David P. Turechek and his wife Sherry of Shelton, and Paul S. Turechek of Stratford, seven grandchildren; Luke J. Turechek, Bonnie M. Turechek and her husband Landon Cunningham, Zachary D. Turechek, Paul S. Turechek Jr., and his wife Nicole, Cyrilla L. Turechek, Tanya M. Turechek and Holly Waligora and her husband Eric, nine great grandchildren, Nicholas, Bryannah, Christopher, Gunner, Grace, Blake, Jack, Hope and Brook, a great great grandson, Seth Jasper (SJ), as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Kenneth C. Turechek.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Charles Borromeo Church, Bridgeport. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Bridgeport. Relatives and friends greet the family on Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bridgeport Fallen Firefighters Fund, 30 Congress St., Bridgeport, CT 06604, ATTN: Gail.
