Obituary of Patricia Ann Maurer

Patricia Ann (O'Brien) Maurer, 1932-2024, age 91, went to the Lord on January 18, 2024 at Bridgeport Hospital, after a brave struggle with cardiac and vascular ailments.

A native and life-long resident of Bridgeport, she was the daughter of the late John O'Brien and late Margaret (Hudak) O'Brien, both of Bridgeport. A graduate of St. John Nepomucene School, Warren Harding High School, and Bridgeport Hospital, School of Nursing, she spent 32 years in nursing at Bridgeport Hospital, serving many years as Head Nurse of the Surgical Unit and retiring as Operating Room Resource Manager. She was a member of the Association of Operating Room Nurses with certification in Perioperative Nursing (CNOR) until retirement. She was past Diocesan coordinator of Project Rachel Support Group, Diocese of Bridgeport and past recipient of Holy Family Award, Diocese of Bridgeport as well as the Saint Augustine Medal, Diocese of Bridgeport. She was a past Lector at Our Lady of Grace Roman Catholic Church, Stratford, CT as well as Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Bridgeport, CT, past volunteer at Hospice, Branford, CT and a volunteer at Bridgeport Regional Center and Thomas Merton Center, Bridgeport, CT.

She married the late Robert L. Maurer and had one daughter, Cynthia Margaret Maurer of Shelton, who survives her. She was predeceased by her sisters, Maryann Aichelman (Roy) formerly of Stratford and Kathleen DiMaio (John and Sue) of Milford. Ever close to her family, she is survived by loving nieces and nephews, including Barbara Aichelman of Derby, Robert and Tina Aichelman (Craig and Cailyn) of Shelton, Michael and Julie (Jay and Hannah) Aichelman of Charlotte, North Carolina, cousin Joanne Jenci (Tom, Kristine John and Scott) of Shelton, CT and best friend and confidant Dr. Gregory M. Smith of Danbury, CT.

She was an ardent supporter of the arts, attending many Broadway shows, as well as the Metropolitan Museum and the New York Philharmonic, Winterthur Museum and Longwood Gardens. Travel was also her passion visiting many countries in Europe, Africa and Asia, in addition to travels throughout the United States. She always possessed a special love of her Irish heritage and family meant everything to her.

Patricia's faith was central to her life and throughout its course she was involved in Roman Catholic activities, especially at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Bridgeport and Our Lady of Grace in Stratford.

Over the years she stayed close to her many friends and neighbors and especially to former nursing colleagues with whom she regularly had monthly lunches.

Friends may greet the family on Sunday, January 28, 2024 from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plain Rd, Trumbull. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 29th at 10:30 a.m. directly at Our Lady of Grace Roman Catholic Church, 497 Second Hill Lane, Stratford.
