Obituary of Nicholas G. Meriano
Nicholas George Meriano, age 91, of Trumbull, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 12, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of 63 years to the late Sebastiana (Betty) Ragusa Meriano. Born in Bridgeport on May 28, 1933, he was a son of the late Domenic and Mary (Della Russo) Meriano.
After Nick left school, he went on to work as a lithographer at New England Printing for many years. Nicholas also enjoyed several sports, and the one that stood out in his great life was golf. He served as caddy to famed golfer Julius Boros at Fairchild Wheeler Golf Course. He also had a passion for Harley Davidson motorcycles and owned several models during his younger years. Nicholas met Betty while traveling in Sicily in 1959 and shortly after they were married and started a family together. In the 70's, he was proud to have served as an Auxiliary Police Officer for the City of Bridgeport. Nick was a lover of all animals, enjoyed playing horseshoes and relaxing with a good cigar; however, his passion was gardening. He enjoyed spending time in his vegetable garden and sharing the fruits of his labor with family and friends. Nick was a loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his two loving children: son Nicholas Meriano Jr. and his wife Jacqueline; daughter Maria Luciani and son-in-law Greg Luciani; two cherished grandchildren, Giana Luciani and Giuseppe Meriano, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers, Roger, Vincent, Carmen and John Meriano and six sisters, Philomena Macciomei, Josephine Laska, Mary Leaf, Theresa Kaufman, Angela Haupler and Rose Matini.
Nick was passionate about sharing the love of our Lord with others. He prioritized his faith as a loyal servant of God, and he was dedicated to loving and feeding animals. Now Nick has passed into the arms of the Lord, his physical life on earth is over, but it is the beginning of an eternal and beautiful journey for him. John 11:25-26 tell us that Jesus said…"I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die."
The family would like to thank Nick's caretakers in the later stages of his life, Charlene, Annette, and his niece Nina Alibrandi, who he connected with and treated like close family.
Relatives and friends may greet the family on Friday, September 20, 2024 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull.
